Institutional Learning Outcomes

The Exceptional Educational Experience (E3) Framework

As a Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) accredited institution, the University of Utah defines institutional learning outcomes for all undergraduates through the Exceptional Educational Experience (E3) Framework — a structure for articulating, assessing, and demonstrating what every student should experience. It organizes institutional aspirations into four interconnected pillars.

The framework provides a common language for discussing and structuring curriculum and opportunities, and a structure for broad assessment across all undergraduate students.

  Why This Matters

The E3 Framework is the top level of the outcomes architecture. Every degree program and the General Education (GE) curriculum connect back to these four pillars. Faculty-defined program and course outcomes are what make this institutional vision tangible and assessable.
