Ivory Prize for Excellence in Student Leadership
In recognition of the centrality of undergraduate student support to the success, visibility and impact of the University of Utah, Clark Ivory, former chair of the Board of Trustees, has established the Ivory Prize. The prize recognizes the extraordinary, influential student accomplishments and leadership that impact student success and positively affect campus or the broader community. The Prize provides $2,000 for the recipient or each co-recipient (up to two) and an additional $10,000 for investment in the program or efforts developed and implemented by the recipient/s.

Goal of the Ivory Prize
To encourage student involvement and leadership, and to promote meaningful contributions from Utah undergraduates.
Prize
The prize may be offered to up to two students in one calendar year. If one student receives the prize, the student leader will receive $2,000 with an additional $10,000 donation to recipient’s cause and/or team. In the event that two students receive the prize, each student would receive $2,000 with the $10,000 divided between two initiatives, at the discretion of the University.
Prize Criteria
Prize recipients will have demonstrated a positive influence on student success and/or fostered efforts that have enabled meaningful change, for example:
- A student body leader who marshaled support over several years to meet a particular student need, such as a new program or center;
- A student whose work with the Bennion Center developed a program that impacts economically underserved population in a meaningful way;
- A student who led a legislative initiative that changed the way higher education is funded or organized and affects institutions around the state;
- A student whose leadership turned around a struggling organization, or developed a new program on campus that met a critical need.

In the event that there are co-recipients, each student would receive $2,000 with the $10,000 going to their joint project.
Eligibility Criteria
- Award nominees must be currently enrolled, or recently graduated (within the last five years) from the University of Utah.
- Nominees can be undergraduate or graduate students, or recent baccalaureate or graduate degree recipients.
- Nominees cannot be serving as a Trustee at the time of nomination.
- Nominees (those who are current students) must be in good academic standing at the time of consideration and award.
Nomination and Selection Process
- A call for nominations will be circulated to the campus community. The call for nominations should be released in January or early February.
- The nomination (self or otherwise) can be up to two pages in length with up to two letters of support.
- Nominations are due Friday, December 13, 2019 at 11:59pm.
- Nominations will be reviewed in March by the Ivory Prize Review Committee.
- The review committee’s selection for the Ivory Prize will be conveyed to the President and Board of Trustees.
Recognition
- Announcement of the Ivory Prize recipient(s) will be made public just before the end of the school year. The recipient will be recognized at a donor event in the spring or fall.
- The recipient(s) of the Ivory Prize may be listed in Commencement Program.
- The recipient(s) of the Ivory Prize will be highlighted on the University website and in various high visibility publications.
- Each year, the Ivory Prize recipient(s) will be memorialized in a display at the Marriott Library.
- A small set of the top nominees will be recognized at a luncheon, and/or with a letter or certificate of congratulations.
