Utah Community Action Honors the U and Vice Provost Hagood
At its annual Bloom Gala, Utah Community Action (UCA) recently recognized the University of Utah and Vice Provost for Student Success T. Chase Hagood, Ph.D., for empowering individuals with access to higher education.
For over 14 years, the U of U has fostered a strong partnership with UCA. With a mission to improve higher education, UCA has provided the Office of Undergraduate Studies with yearly scholarships to help support students throughout their academic journey. UCA awards tuition and housing scholarships to students who participated in Head Start Preschool as children. The aid allows them to live on campus where collaboration with fellow students is easily accessible.
As a UCA initiative, Head Start works with preschool-aged kids to advance educational opportunities for low-income families. According to UCA, the program “focuses on health, education, and self-reliance for children 0-5 and their families. Each year, UCA serves over 2,000 children through free early childhood education, healthy meals, medical and dental screenings, and holistic support for the whole household.” Current U of U students who participated in Head Start as a child are eligible for the UCA scholarships.
Hagood is dedicated to enhancing the exceptional educational experience for all undergraduate students at the University of Utah. “The partnership between the University of Utah and Utah Community Action significantly benefits communities across the state of Utah,” Hagood affirmed. “Together, we are focused on preparing students from various backgrounds to be global citizens who lead enriching lives through the transformative power of education.”
The U of U was honored alongside Intermountain Health and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for excellence in building communities and strengthening families.
