2024 Transfer Summit

Leaders from the U and SLCC at the 2024 Transfer Summit

The University of Utah in collaboration with Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) held the 2024 Transfer Summit in March. The event took place at the SLCC Taylorsville campus, where students and faculty from both institutions joined in learning and providing insights about the transfer process. Highlights of the event included a word from both institutions' presidents Taylor Randall and Dennece Huftalin, intriguing panels from senior leaders and students, and various breakout sessions filled with information on all things transfer student support.

Held in the Student Center, attendees joined to hear a special message from President Randall and President Huftalin. They expressed the importance of transfer students, as well as the positive impact they have on the institutions. President Randall shared that the University of Utah receives a majority of its transfer students from SLCC. The schools take pride in their nearly seamless transfer process. The two also talked about the new UofU/SLCC Herriman campus. This campus holds one building that includes both UofU and SLCC students. The campus is another testament to the amazing collaboration between the two schools.

After the special message, senior leaders Jason Pickavance (SLCC), Brett Perozzi (SLCC), Chase Hagood (UofU), and Jason Ramirez (UofU) joined together on stage to answer questions. Following this, the group split up into breakout sessions.  These sessions included: UofU Transfer Admission, Navigating Academic Standards,  Better Together, Transfer Student Success, Gen Ed Updates and their Impact, and Transfer Logistics. These breakout sessions were informative and supplied faculty and students with valuable information.

Attendees then re-grouped,  listened, and participated in a student panel led by Anni Tedder (SLCC). The panel included students Emily Hernandez Alzamora, Olive Nyiramwiza, and Luisana Zambrano. The students fielded questions from those in the audience regarding the transfer experience. All three students transferred to the UofU from SLCC.

The Transfer Student Success Summit was informative and beneficial. The event was filled with  information from knowledgeable speakers with impactful insights on the student transfer process. Attendees left with a better understanding of how to navigate the transfer journey.
