Mercedes Johnson
Mercedes Johnson is a senior at the University and a strategic communications major
with a minor in business administration. She also received the Community Engaged Learning
certificate from the Bennion Center. She describes herself as involved, outgoing,
happy, caring, and confident.
Johnson was actively engaged on campus. She served as a TRIO SSS Mentor, worked in
Alumni Relations, was the ASUU Assembly Treasurer, served as the ASUU Senate Chair,
and acted as the IAC for Education for the Bennion Center.
Community Engaged Learning classes, Johnson said, were her favorites. After taking
a creative writing class connected to Community Engaged Learning, where she taught
fifth graders about poetry, she was inspired to continue her studies.
“I really knew we were making a difference, and I knew my education would never be
the same, and I took several more Community Engaged Learning classes after that,”
Johnson said.
Apart from academic responsibilities, Johnson enjoys line dancing, listening to country
music, and attending concerts.
After graduation, Johnson will be the First Attendant for Miss Bluffdale before getting
a Master’s degree in Marketing.
